Details on Matura River Explore

The rating of this hike is (5) Moderately challenging

Lush forest, breathtaking views, and water, water water!!! Walk to a small ravine from Thomas Trace through the "Pine Forest" before descending a relatively steep and very slippery hill known locally as "Soap Hill". Distance covered at this point at a small ravine is 1.8 miles. The official river trek begins along this ravine for a considerable distance, to the main "Matura River". A stream walk along the ravine to Matura River takes for the most 1 hour, and distance covered at this point is 3.5 miles.

At Matura River, plunge into a small gorge and swim the deep pool to the other end. At this point, and from here onward, there is an option to walk along river bank or swim through gorgeous, deep emerald green waters. Be careful of the constant slippery rocks on the river bed the entire way.

Arriving at  "Mermaid Pools" indicates the end of river exploration, and at this point, distance covered is 5.9 miles. Walk for 25 minutes through the  majestic Pine Trees on an original dirt road to end this memorable day. Total distance accomplished is 6.8 miles.

Life jackets will be provided upon request. Ropes and other safety devices will also be on hand.

The entire River Exploration takes a maximum time of 4 hours finishing at Mermaid Pools

Duration of he trek from Mermaid Pools back to the start: 35 minutes

Wear long/short trousers.

Wear long/short sleeve tops. No sleeveless.

Wear hiking shoes/trainers with good grips under the soles. NO SLIPPERS PLEASE.

Use a backpack thereby keeping both hands totally free.

Bring along mosquito repellent.

Bring a change of clothing which will be left in the vehicles.
